About this service
Are you a government office or filing service?
No. MCSetup publishes general information and takes insurance quote requests. Registrations are made with FMCSA, the IRS and the states.
Are you an insurer?
No. Licensed agents and partners provide quotes. MCSetup does not issue policies.
Is the request free?
It is free. New carriers pay nothing to send a request through MCSetup.
Who will contact me?
An agent or partner licensed to place new authority policies may get in touch by phone, text or email, within the consent you gave.
Do I need trucking experience to get coverage?
Insurers weigh experience heavily. Less experience usually means fewer options, but describing your background accurately helps.
Can I add trucks later?
Yes. Tell your agent before a new truck goes into service, and update your FMCSA registration.
Can I start as a leased-on driver first?
Yes. Many people gain experience leased on to an established carrier before applying for their own authority. Insurers often view that experience favorably.
Do you file my BOC-3?
No. Process agent companies file the BOC-3.
How do I stop messages?
Reply STOP to texts, let the caller know, or fill in the privacy page form and contact ends.
Setup questions
How long does setup take?
It varies with how quickly you complete each step and how long filings take to process. Insurance is often the step that stalls new carriers.
Can I haul under someone else's authority while mine is pending?
Many new carriers lease on to an established carrier while setting up. Your insurance needs change when you do, so tell the agent.
Can I get insurance before I have an MC number?
You usually need the USDOT and docket numbers for the insurer to make a filing, but you can request quotes earlier.
Can the audit be done remotely?
FMCSA conducts many new entrant audits offsite, with records submitted electronically. You will be told how it will be conducted.
